CulDeChat Community Guidelines
Effective date: November 1, 2026
CulDeChat works when neighbors trust each other. These guidelines apply to posts, comments, messages, display names, Around Town suggestions, and access requests.
Be a good neighbor
- Be respectful, even when you disagree.
- Be honest. Share information you believe is true.
- Keep it local and useful.
Protect everyone's privacy
- Never post someone's address, phone number, license plate, or photos of their home without permission.
- Don't try to figure out where other members live.
- Don't share private messages publicly.
No profiling
- Don't post "suspicious person" descriptions based on how someone looks. That's why CulDeChat has no "suspicious person" category.
- If you see a crime or emergency, call 911. Post a Safety alert only about the event (for example, "car break-ins on Oak St last night"), not someone's appearance.
- No content that attacks people for race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or national origin.
Use "urgent" for real urgent things
Urgent categories notify neighbors in your circle: - Lost or found pet - Safety (fire, gas smell, downed power line) - Outage (power, water, internet) - Weather or hazard (flooding, fallen tree, icy road)
Everything else is everyday: for sale or free, recommendations, events, general. Neighbors can mark urgent posts "not urgent," and repeated misuse limits your urgent posts.
Not allowed
- Harassment, threats, bullying, or hate speech
- Sexual content, violence, or illegal activity
- Spam, scams, or repeated advertising (use For sale or free for one-off items)
- Impersonation or fake accounts
- Misleading information that could cause harm
Helpful marks and badges
- Mark posts and Around Town suggestions Helpful when they actually helped you.
- Don't trade Helpful marks or use extra accounts to earn badges. Badges can be paused or removed.
Reporting and blocking
- Use Report on any post, comment, message, or person. Reports are confidential.
- Use Block to stop someone from seeing your posts or messaging you.
What happens if guidelines are broken
Depending on how serious it is: content removed, a warning, badges paused, limits on posting or urgent alerts, suspension, or a permanent ban.
